Troubleshoot In-Person Meetings on iPad (VRIFY App 5.7.0)

Learn how to fix problems adding participants to or joining an in-person meeting on iPad.

Overview

In-person meetings connect iPads directly to each other without an internet connection. If a participant does not appear, cannot be added, or cannot join an in-person meeting on iPad, complete the basic checks first.

Issues can be caused by Local Network access being off, an active Wi-Fi network interfering with connection, a presentation that has not finished downloading, or iPads that are too far apart.

If the problem continues, use the troubleshooting steps for your role:

Note: These steps apply to VRIFY app version 5.7.0 and later. See How to Update the VRIFY App.

Basic Checks for In-Person Meetings

Complete these on every iPad in the meeting.

  1. Update the VRIFY app and your iPad to the latest versions. See Update the VRIFY App and Update Your iPad to the Latest iOS.

  2. Host iPad only, participant iPads if you have access: Download or update the 3D Presentation, open it, and go through every slide so all 3D and 360 slides load fully. Do this while your iPad is still connected to the internet. See Download Presentations on iPad.

  3. Turn on Wi-Fi and disconnect from any Wi-Fi network. An active network can interfere with iPads connecting to each other. See Disconnect from a Wi-Fi Network on iPad.

  4. Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Local Network and check that VRIFY is turned on. This is a key step. It lets nearby iPads find each other without an internet connection.

  5. Keep the iPads close together.

Issue

Troubleshooting steps

No participants appear in the Participants window.

  1. Ask each participant to open the VRIFY app and tap Join In-Person in the sidebar under Meetings. If a participant is not logged in, ask them to tap Join Meeting on the home screen.

  2. Check that each participant’s iPad shows a green Visible icon and the message Visible to Nearby iPads.

  3. Complete the basic checks on the host iPad and every participant iPad.

A participant’s iPad shows Visible to Nearby iPads, but it does not appear in the Participants window.

  1. Ask the participant to tap the refresh arrow or network icon. The search restarts and takes about 5 seconds.

  2. If the participant still does not appear, complete the basic checks.

This looks different based on whether the participant is logged in or joining from the app home screen.

You cannot add a participant.

  1. Check that the presentation has finished downloading on your iPad.

  2. If it has not, connect to the internet and download it. Then disconnect from any Wi-Fi network and start the in-person meeting again.

  3. If the participant is still in another meeting, ask them to tap the X in the upper left and confirm they want to leave. Then tap Tap to Add again.

The presentation does not transfer to a participant’s iPad.

  1. Tap Tap to Add next to the participant again in the Participants window.

  2. If it fails again, move the iPads closer together and complete the basic checks.

A participant loses connection.

  1. Wait for the participant’s iPad to reconnect.

  2. If it does not reconnect, tap Tap to Add next to the participant again.

Connect via Internet does not generate a meeting code.

  1. Connect your iPad to a stable internet network.

  2. If Internet Required appears, tap Try Again.

Participants still do not appear in the Participants window.

If you and your participants have a stable internet connection, host an online meeting instead. See Host an Online Meeting on iPad.
