Join an In-Person Meeting on iPad (VRIFY App 5.7.0)

Learn how to make your iPad visible and join an in-person meeting hosted nearby.

Overview

Joining an in-person meeting on iPad makes your iPad visible to nearby iPads so the host can add you to their 3D Presentation. You do not need a meeting code or an internet connection, which makes in-person meetings a good fit for conference floors and remote locations where internet is unreliable.

To join, turn on Wi-Fi, disconnect from any Wi-Fi network, and check that Local Network is turned on for VRIFY so nearby iPads can find yours. The app asks for this access when you first open it, so it is likely already on, but in-person meetings do not work without it. You can join whether you are logged in or not.

If you are logged in, tap Join In-Person in the sidebar under Meetings. If you are not logged in, tap Join Meeting on the app home screen. Your iPad is ready to be found when the Visible icon turns green.

The host sees the name shown on your iPad’s icon when they add you. You can change this name in the app before you become visible, whether you are logged in or not.

Before You Join an In-Person Meeting

Disconnect from your network before you join. An active network can interfere with your iPad connecting to nearby iPads, especially when conference Wi-Fi is slow.

  1. Update the VRIFY app and your iPad to the latest versions so the app works as expected. See Update the VRIFY App and Update Your iPad to the Latest iOS.

  2. Check that Local Network access is enabled for VRIFY. See Enable Local Network Access on Your iPad.

  3. Keep Wi-Fi turned on and disconnect from any Wi-Fi network. See Disconnect from a Wi-Fi Network on iPad.

Step by Step Instructions

Join an In-Person Meeting When Logged In

  1. In the sidebar, under Meetings, tap Join In-Person. Join an In-Person Meeting opens, and the message Searching for nearby iPads appears in orange.

  2. Optional: To change the name the host sees, edit the name next to Visible as.

  3. Wait for the Visible icon to turn green and the message to change to Visible to Nearby iPads. Nearby iPads can now find yours.

  4. If your iPad does not become visible, tap the refresh arrow to search again. If it still does not appear, see Having Trouble Joining an In-Person Meeting? below.

  5. Stay on this screen and keep your iPad close to the host iPad until the host invites you. Joining Meeting... appears when the host invites you.

  6. Wait for the presentation to open. The presentation opens on the first slide until the host starts navigating.

Join an In-Person Meeting Without Logging In

  1. On the app home screen, tap Join Meeting. The Pair Device screen opens, and the message Searching for nearby iPads appears in orange.

  2. Optional: To change the name the host sees, edit the name next to Visible as.

  3. Wait for the Visible icon to turn green and the message to change to Visible to Nearby iPads. Nearby iPads can now find yours.

  4. If your iPad does not become visible, tap the refresh arrow to search again. If it still does not appear, see Having Trouble Joining an In-Person Meeting? below.

  5. Stay on this screen and keep your iPad close to the host iPad until the host invites you. Joining Meeting... appears when the host adds you.

  6. Wait for the presentation to open. The presentation opens on the first slide until the host starts navigating.

Leave an In-Person Meeting

When the host ends the meeting, you return to the app home screen.

To leave before the host ends the meeting:

  1. Tap the X in the upper left.

  2. Tap Leave to confirm.

To return to the meeting, the host must invite you again.

Having Trouble Joining an In-Person Meeting?

If the screen says Not Visible to Nearby iPads, check the following:

  1. Check that Local Network is turned on for VRIFY.

  2. Check that Wi-Fi is turned on and that you are disconnected from any Wi-Fi network. An active network can interfere with nearby iPads finding yours.

  3. Keep your iPad close to the host iPad.

  4. Tap the refresh arrow next to the message. The search restarts and takes about 5 seconds.
