Validate and Publish Surface Geochemistry Data

Learn how to validate and publish Surface Geochemistry data in VRIFY Prepare so it is available for use in VRIFY Present.

Overview

Before Surface Geochemistry data can be added to a 3D Slide in VRIFY Present, it must first pass data quality checks in VRIFY Prepare.

Surface Geochemistry data requires an additional field mapping step. Using the Field Mapper, you match the columns in your CSV file to the required fields in VRIFY Prepare, then map your assay columns to their corresponding elements, units, and methods. Once all steps are complete, you publish the file for final processing. If your data is in a shapefile, it follows a much shorter workflow.

Prepare and Upload Data

Tabular data includes required and recommended fields — see Surface Geochemistry: Required & Recommended Fields before uploading.

Upload and sort your files into the correct subfolders in Files before starting this workflow. See Upload Files to VRIFY.

Subfolder

Preferred Formats

Lake Sediments

.csv, .shp (required: .shp, .shx, .dbf, .prj)

Stream Sediments

.csv, .shp (required: .shp, .shx, .dbf, .prj)

Soil

.csv, .shp (required: .shp, .shx, .dbf, .prj)

Till

.csv, .shp (required: .shp, .shx, .dbf, .prj)

Water Samples

.csv, .shp (required: .shp, .shx, .dbf, .prj)

Rock

.csv, .shp (required: .shp, .shx, .dbf, .prj)

Step by Step Instructions

CSV Workflow

  1. Select Surface Geochemistry from the left sidebar.

  2. Drag the file into the workspace.

    • Note: VRIFY Prepare automatically adds Confirm Sample, Field Mapper and Data Quality steps to the workspace.

Map Fields

  1. Click the Confirm Sample Type step to open the Step Details sidebar on the right.

  2. Confirm the tag is correct for your file type.

    • Note: The tag is pre-populated based on the subfolder you uploaded to

  3. Click the Field Mapper step.

    • Note: A preview of your CSV data will appear in the workspace.

  1. Map the following required fields to the corresponding columns in your CSV:

    • Project Name

    • X / Easting / Longitude

    • Y / Northing / Latitude

    • Sample ID

    • Sample Type

  2. Map additional columns as needed by clicking Additional Columns.

Map Assays

  1. Click Map Assays to open the Map Assays interface.

  2. Under Element mappings, review the source columns detected from your CSV. Unmapped columns are listed on the left.

  3. For each element, confirm or set the following:

    • Element — the element name (e.g. Ag, Au)

    • Unit — the unit of measurement (e.g. Parts Per Million (PPM), Percent (PERCENT))

    • Method — the lab method used (e.g. AuME-ST43)

  4. To map any remaining unmapped columns, click + Map next to the column name, or click + Add all unmapped to map all at once.

  5. Click Next: Rank & detection limits.

  6. For each element, enter the low and high detection limits (LO DL and HI DL) if known. These fields are optional.

  7. If an element has multiple methods, drag the handle to rank them in order of priority. Rank 1 is preferred.

  8. Click Done.

Review Results and Publish

  1. Click Map.

    • Note: A notification will appear confirming that mapping is running in the background.

  2. Once the Field Mapper step shows Succeeded, click the step to review the results in the right sidebar.

    • Note: If issues are found, click the issue to filter the CSV preview in the workspace to only view the affected rows. Correct the data and re-upload the file, then repeat the mapping steps before publishing.

  3. Click the Data Quality step to open the right sidebar.

  4. If no issues are found, or only non-blocking issues are present, click Publish File.

    • Note: If you are updating existing Surface Geochemistry data, a prompt will appear asking whether you want to update or replace the existing data. Updating is recommended. Use replace with caution as it will overwrite your existing data.

Confirm Data is Available in VRIFY Present

  1. After publishing, most files are available immediately with a status of Accepted. Large files can take an hour or more. See Understanding File Statuses.

  2. Once the file status shows Accepted, open a 3D Slide in edit mode in VRIFY Present and open the Add Objects & Assets panel. The data will appear under the corresponding folder.
