Validate and Publish Surface Geochemistry Data

Learn how to validate and publish Surface Geochemistry data in VRIFY Prepare so it is available for use in VRIFY Present.

Overview

Before Surface Geochemistry data can be added to a 3D Slide in VRIFY Present, it must first pass data quality checks in VRIFY Prepare.

Surface Geochemistry data requires an additional field mapping step. Using the Field Mapper, you match the columns in your CSV file to the required fields in VRIFY Prepare, then map your assay columns to their corresponding elements, units, and methods. Once all steps are complete, you publish the file for final processing. If your data is in a shapefile, it follows a much shorter workflow.

Prepare and Upload Data

Step by Step Instructions

Before you begin, open your data files and review the column headers and values. You can do this in the VRIFY Prepare interface or in your preferred software on your desktop. Knowing what your data contains makes the mapping steps faster and reduces errors.

CSV Workflow

  1. Select Surface Geochemistry from the left sidebar.

  2. Drag the file into the workspace.

    • Note: VRIFY Prepare automatically adds Confirm Sample, Field Mapper and Data Quality steps to the workspace.

Map Fields

  1. Click the Confirm Sample Type step to open the Step Details sidebar on the right.

  2. Confirm the tag is correct for your file type.

    • Note: The tag is pre-populated based on the subfolder you uploaded to

  3. Click the Field Mapper step.

    • Note: A preview of your CSV data will appear in the workspace.

  1. Map the following required fields to the corresponding columns in your CSV:

    • Project Name

    • X / Easting / Longitude

    • Y / Northing / Latitude

    • Sample ID

    • Sample Type

  2. Click Additional Columns and map as many fields as your data allows. Columns skipped now will require remapping later, as new features are added.

Map Assays

  1. Click Map Assays to open the Map Assays interface. This step defines how each assay column in your CSV is stored, matching each column to an element, unit, and method. If you have multiple columns for the same element measured using different methods, you can also rank them in order of reliability. This ranking determines which method is used by default when the data is displayed on a 3D Slide.

  2. Under Element mappings, review the source columns detected from your CSV. Unmapped columns are listed on the left.

  3. For each element, confirm or set the following:

    • Element — the element name (e.g. Ag, Au)

    • Unit — the unit of measurement (e.g. Parts Per Million (PPM), Percent (PERCENT)).

      • Note: Units may be auto-populated. Always review them before proceeding to ensure accuracy.

    • Method — the lab method used (e.g. AuME-ST43)

      • Note: If you do not know the method, leave the default value.

  4. To map any remaining unmapped columns, click + Map next to the column name, or click + Add all unmapped to map all at once. Any column that cannot be matched to an element will not appear in the output and will not affect your data.

  5. Click Next: Rank & detection limits.

  6. For each element, enter the low and high detection limits (LO DL and HI DL) if known. These fields are optional.

  7. If an element has multiple methods, drag the handle to rank them in order of priority. Rank 1 is preferred.

  8. Click Done, then Map.

Review Results and Publish

  1. Once all steps are complete, click Data Quality to review the results in the right sidebar. Review any error messages. See Understanding Error Messages in VRIFY Prepare for guidance.

    • Note: If issues are found, click the error message to open additional information:

      This will also filter the affected rows in the workspace. Click into a cell to edit directly in the workspace, click Save, then re-run the mapping step. See Edit Tabular Data in VRIFY Prepare.

  2. If no issues are found, or only non-blocking issues are present, click Publish File.

    • Note: If you are updating existing Surface Geochemistry data, a prompt will appear asking whether you want to update or replace the existing data. Updating is recommended. Use replace with caution as it will overwrite your existing data.

Confirm Data is Available in VRIFY Present

  1. After publishing, most files are available immediately with a status of Accepted. Large files can take an hour or more. See Understanding File Statuses.

  2. Once the file status shows Accepted, open a 3D Slide in edit mode in VRIFY Present and open the Add Objects & Assets panel. The data will appear under the corresponding folder.
