Turn Off Windowed Apps Setting (iOS 26)

Learn how to disable Windowed Apps and enable Full Screen Apps on your iPad

Updated this week

Overview

iOS 26 includes a default setting called Windowed Apps that allows you to resize and arrange multiple windows in a single space.

With this setting, it’s easy to shift the app around and unintentionally display parts of your screen. To avoid disruptions, we strongly recommend disabling it and enabling Full Screen Apps so your presentations remain seamless.

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Open Settings

    • Tap the Settings app on your home screen.

      • Settings app
  2. Go to Multitasking and Gestures

    • Scroll down the left-hand menu and tap Multitasking and Gestures:

  3. Switch to Full Screen Apps

    • Under this menu, you'll see the current setting is likely set to Windowed Apps:

      • Full Screen Apps selected
    • Tap Full Screen Apps to change the setting:

  4. Your Changes Are Saved Automatically

    • Once selected, the system will apply the change without needing to confirm.

Not sure which iOS your iPad is running? Here's how to check:
