Sharing Data with VRIFY for 3D Visualizations

Learn about transferring the data required to build out your 3D Model as one of the first steps in building out your VRIFY content.

Updated over 4 months ago

Overview

Transferring the data required to build your 3D Models is one of the first steps in building out your VRIFY content. This article gives you an idea of what this process looks like and gives insight into the types of files to share.

What to expect

Our implementation team will work directly with your technical team to execute a timely turnaround on content you can start using right away.

Well-validated data shared in one of our preferred formats typically results in the fastest turnaround on building your 3D Model; regardless of your data formats, we’re here to help validate, troubleshoot, provide export strategies, and make the data transfer process as seamless as possible.

Generally, the ideal data and format types are:

  • Drilling and point data in CSV formats with our preferred headers (these are likely similar/identical to your own software headers).

  • GIS/2D surface data in kml/kmz or shapefile format.

  • Any 3D shape in a 3D dxf/wireframe format.

  • Overlays, maps and cross sections in georeferenced (geotiff) format, or as a pdf with georeferencing info attached (X-X’ coordinates/trace with grid info)

While these formats are fairly standard, we are continually striving to expand our capacity to accept as many different types of files as possible, so if you’re unsure please reach out and we’ll make it work.

Examples of files you may want to share

  • Property Boundaries/Tenure

  • Topography (in-house available)

  • Satellite Image/Orthophoto (in-house available)

  • Surface Infrastructure:

    • Roads, Power Lines, Rail, Local Communities

    • Neighbouring/Competing Properties of Interest

    • Additional/adjacent Client-owned/operated properties in area

  • Project Infrastructure (at surface):

    • Processing Plant (Operating/Proposed – Conceptual), Tailings Facility(ies), Surface Outline of Pit(s), Stockpile(s), Waste Dump(s), Closure/Reclamation shapes, Solar project

  • Drill Data

    • Standard drill sets (assays, collars, surveys) and preferred grade ranges

    • Highlights/Composites

  • Grade Shells and/or Block Models (Resources/Reserves)

    • Shown as class/confidence, ore type, or a grade cutoff/variance

  • Resource/Reserve Table

  • Geology

    • Surficial geological info (trends/fault lines/zones etc.)

    • 3D Geological Model(s) (Lithological, Alteration etc.)

    • 3D Structural Shapes (faults etc.)

    • Cross or Long Sections, Surficial Geology Maps (plan view)

  • Geochemistry

    • Surficial Geochemical data (either contoured as an overlay OR point data)

    • 3D Geochemical Interpretations

  • Geophysics

    • 3D Geophysical Inversion Model(s)

    • 2D Contoured Geophysical data (plan view maps/overlays)

    • 2D Geophysical Cross sections or Level sections

  • Underground Infrastructure

    • Stopes (mined/unmined, etc.)

    • Shafts/raises/addits/declines

    • LOM Sequence (years/phases)

    • Historic/Planned, etc.

  • 3D Pit(s) Shapes

    • By time period/phase/type.

  • Target/Exploration Areas

  • Photos

    • Core photos: linking to drill highlights OR contextual (mineralization types etc)

    • ESG Initiatives & Content (local outreach, community projects, environmental baselining, stakeholder engagement etc.)

    • Operations photos (fleet, UG ops, etc.) not covered by drone/360 photos

    • Geological photos (significant outcrops, exposed faces etc.) not covered by drone/360 photos.

Notes/Best Practices - Sharing Complex Files

Resource/Reserves & Block models

It’s ideal if these files are shared in static 3D dxf format but these can occasionally be challenging to extract from resource estimation (RE) software. However, VRIFY can provide export strategies for essentially all estimation suites. In most RE software, this can be achieved via a simple export function, or a quick triangulation around a volume. If you’re having any trouble let us know and we can discuss using your raw .csv BM.

Site Infrastructure

Depending on the stage of your conceptual site infrastructure (processing plants/mills, pits, underground development, tailings, waste dumps, stockpile etc), you may have 2D line drawings/layouts, spline files or 3D renderings. You can send these as 3D dxf’s/wireframes/fbx’s OR a full Navisworks file - our team can optimize it for the VRIFY model. We also have several solutions in place if you do not currently have 3D shapes built (using site plan overlays and still images of renderings).

A note on our style standards

At VRIFY we strive to adhere to style standards that provide a streamlined experience for the investor/stakeholder, align with our core values, and integrate seamlessly with your own corporate branding via neutral design. To make a great investment decision, agile comparison is essential - VRIFY models align on many design factors to facilitate this.

The research behind our design standards takes into account industry tradition, powerful aesthetics and viewer accessibility. Additionally, the VRIFY platform is built on the foundational concept of transparency; we do not augment/alter client data in any way (no photoshop here).

Feel free to reach out if you have any questions with respect to any of these topics.
