AOI Pixels Guide

Learn about pixels presets for an Area of Interest.

Updated over 3 weeks ago

Overview

After selecting your Area of Interest (AOI) in the first of the DORA Prediction Map workflow, you can configure the grid resolution by adjusting the pixel count. Pixel presets refer to how the AOI is divided for processing and analysis. The pixel size will affect the resolution and detail of the learning data and your generated target clusters and VRIFY Prospectivity Score (VPS).

AOI Parameters

The AOI will always be a rectangular or square shape with DORA. You can choose from different pixel dimension configurations when configuring it:

Higher resolution provides more detail but increases processing time. For early-stage experiments, start with moderate resolution to speed up iterations.

Resolution

Example Size

Best For

Trade-offs

Low

256px x 256px

Broad, sparse, lower-quality AOIs

Fastest processing, least detail

Medium

512px x 512px (default)

Balanced AOIs

Good balance of speed and detail

High

1024px x 1024px

Small, well-mapped AOIs

Most detail, slower processing

For horizontal (east-west) rectangles, prioritize higher resolution on the width to capture more detail across that direction. For vertical (north-south) rectangles, focus on adding more resolution to the height to improve the detail of that orientation.

Note: Keep in mind that you want to keep the pixels of your grid as square as possible.

Example:

Note: The size of the AOI determines the resolution scale, but the pixel count itself does not change.

Example:

  • AOI dimensions: 10 km (height) x 4 km (width)

  • Grid size: 1024 x 512 pixels

  • Resulting pixel dimensions:

    • Height per pixel = 10,000 m ÷ 1024 = ~9.8 m

    • Width per pixel = 4,000 m ÷ 512 = ~7.8 m

Once you have selected your pixels, you can zoom in to view the individual pixels to see how they impact the resolution of your AOI.

Adding a New AOI

If you want to create a new AOI shape, such as setting an AOI in a different area, you will need to upload a new file.

To do so, draw the new AOI in a shapefile (.shp) using your preferred GIS or modelling software and drag and drop the six files associated with this new AOI to the viewing window in DORA when in the AOI menu. Your newly-created AOI will then be available to select.

Alternatively, you can reach out to your DORA contact for assistance.
